Start with the main point

Write down what you would like to see the doctor about. It can be one short sentence: what worries you and what you would like to understand after the consultation.

There is no need to use medical terms. It matters more to describe your experience in your own words.

Gather your history

If you have reports from previous consultations, test results or a list of prescriptions, keep them in one place.

  • Recall when your concern started and how it has changed over time.
  • Write down the names of products and medicines you would like to discuss.
  • Note which documents you have found and which are still missing.

Prepare your questions

Make a short list of questions in advance. At the appointment you can start with the most important one and then move on to the details.

  • What will we discuss during the consultation?
  • What next steps do you suggest?
  • How and when can I ask questions that come up later?

Check the practical details

Check the address, time and length of the appointment. If a particular examination requires preparation, ask the clinic about it when booking.

Bring your list of questions. During the conversation it is handy to note the answers and what you agreed on.

A good start to a consultation is to say what matters most to you.
